  • Swami and Friends: A six-episode saga that follows the adventures and misadventures of Swami, a ten-year-old boy who attends a missionary school in Malgudi. Swami is a rebellious, mischievous, and imaginative child who often gets into trouble with his teachers, parents, and friends. He forms a cricket team with his friends and challenges the rival team from the neighbouring town. He also runs away from home after being punished by his father and joins a group of freedom fighters.



  • The Vendor of Sweets: A three-episode adaptation of R. K. Narayan's novel of the same name. It tells the story of Jagan, a traditional sweets seller who is proud of his business and his son Mali. However, Jagan's life is turned upside down when Mali returns from America with a foreign wife and a novel idea of making story-writing machines. Jagan struggles to cope with the changes in his family and society.



  • The Missing Mail: A single-episode story that revolves around Thanappa, a friendly and dedicated postman who knows everyone in Malgudi. He delivers letters with great care and sometimes even reads them for the illiterate recipients. He develops a special bond with Ramanujam, a senior clerk in the Revenue Department, and his daughter Kamakshi, whom he has seen growing up since childhood. When Kamakshi's marriage is arranged with a suitable groom, Thanappa is overjoyed and eagerly awaits the wedding invitation. However, he faces a dilemma when he receives a letter that could ruin the wedding.



  • Naga: A two-episode story that depicts the life of Venkatesh, a snake charmer who travels from village to village with his son Pundi and their pet cobra Naga. Venkatesh is a widower who falls in love with another woman and decides to elope with her. He leaves Pundi behind with Naga, who becomes his only companion and protector. Pundi faces many hardships and dangers as he tries to survive on his own with Naga.



  • Salt and Sawdust: A single-episode story that portrays the marital conflict between Ramanujam's brother Subbu and his wife Seeta. Subbu is a food lover who enjoys eating various delicacies prepared by his wife. Seeta is a writer who has a passion for literature and wants to pursue her career as an author. She neglects her household duties and spends most of her time writing stories. Subbu feels neglected and frustrated by his wife's indifference towards him and their domestic life.




Malgudi Days is widely regarded as one of the best television adaptations of literary works in India. It has won several awards and accolades, including the National Film Award for Best Children's Film in 1987. It has also been praised for its authentic portrayal of rural India, its faithful rendition of R. K.
